Part of Norwich Book Festival
We are thrilled to be hosting a screening and panel discussion as part of this year’s Norwich Book Festival. The Vinyl Revival is a fascinating documentary that discusses the importance of the record shop and the renaissance in all things vinyl.
Based on the book The Vinyl Revival and the Shops That Made It Happen by Graham Jones, we hear from passionate new record shop owners as well the established die-hards still going and thriving. The Vinyl Revival also features contributions from celebrated musicians including Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and Ade Utley (Portishead) as we explore the stories of how the humble little record shop has shaped so many lives.
The screening will be followed by a special panel discussion with local record shop owners and an audience Q&A featuring:
Benjamin Venus is the founder of Magdalen Street record-store VENUS VINYL. He started VENUS VINYL back in 2014, as a Saturday market-stall on Broadway Market in London. In April 2021, Benjamin opened VENUS VINYL’s first physical store in Norwich. His passion lies in promoting the best music out there across the music genre spectrum, especially lesser-known artists, as demonstrated in his carefully curated collection.
Peter Keeley has worked in music distribution for nearly half a century. Starting off working in Record Shops in Norwich (Ace Records and Backs Records), he helped set up the distribution arm of Backs Records before moving to London in the 1980s to work for Rough Trade Distribution. Peter moved back to Norwich in 2010 and has worked for Shellshock Distribution in Norwich ever since.
Eric White has been running Out of Time Records on Magdalen Street since 1986. Covering many genres and eras, he has retained his enthusiasm not just for the music he sells, but for ensuring his customers are confident in his stock suggestions and conditions.
Hosted by Sophie Little, an audio producer, sound artist and writer. She is currently a director of SOUNDYARD, a non-profit podcast production company and studio. She has over 15 years experience as a broadcaster in radio; celebrating music and culture through her work with the BBC (Radio 1, 6 Music, BBC Introducing) and beyond.
Tickets are £8.
